Q. I don't understand the variables used in the StockMarksTM charts, where can I find out what they mean?
A. Please check our Academy for a description of our methodology.
Q. Is your quality rating endorsed by Warren Buffett?
A. The reliance of our rating methodology on Warren Buffet's methodology is simply our modest tribute to his contribution to understanding stock market investing. It does not imply any endorsement on his part, as indeed we have never asked for it nor do we intend to do so in the future.
Q. Can I use the top rated companies as a list of stock recommendations to buy?
A. The Total StockMark is based on a long term assessment of each company. It does not take into consideration the market outlook or the profile of specific investors. As such, it is more suitable for long term and buy-and-hold strategies and for re-balancing and due-dilligence analysis. Nevertheless, as shown in our case studies, it can also be used as a powerful tool for stock-picking.
Q. Why do you only offer these countries?
A. We can only cover markets with more than 200 listed companies because our analytics are strongly based on statistical analysis. Some countries meeting this basic requirement were left out because our data providers did not have enough information on the companies listed there.
Q. Do you plan to add more countries?
A. Yes, we hope to add a few more (e.g. India) as soon as reliable data becomes available.
Q. How do I change my personal details/profile?
A. To change your personal details you can click on the 'user settings' button that appears in the page header after you login.
Q. I forgot my username/password, how can I recover them?
A. Click here to be taken to our password retrieval page. You will need either your registered username or the email address that you used to register with us.
Q. Why is StockMarksTM telling me that the ticker I have entered is invalid?
A. There may be several causes of this. First, please search for the company using our Symbol (Ticker) Lookup to ensure that the ticker is correct. When you look up the ticker it will also tell you which country the ticker is registered in, please ensure that this matches the country selected at the top of the page. If the Symbol (Ticker) Lookup does not return any search results for your selected company, then it is likely that we have insufficient information on the company to perform a full StockMarksTM analysis. Please check back periodically as we are adding new companies all the time.
Q. Why do I not get any search results when I search for a company in the Symbol (Ticker) Lookup?
A. Please ensure that the company's name is spelled correctly. If no results are returned it is likely that we have insufficient information on the company to perform a full StockMarksTM analysis.
Q. How much does it cost to subscribe to StockMarksTM?
A. The price varies depending on the country and duration of the subscription. Please check our subscription page for further details.
Q. Why are there gaps in the data?
A. Our rating system relies on information from data providers. We can only rate companies on days in which we have data for them. Please use option 7 on the 'Single Stock Analysis' page to find out if your selected company had a trading halt or similar occurance during the gap period.
Q. Why does my selected company only have a short analyzed period?
A. There may be two reasons for this. Try to change the start date in the date field on the page the chart is on. If this does not work, then this company has only recently met the criteria to enter our system and therefore older ratings are not available.
Q. When I change the dates for the charts, why I can't put in today's date?
A. Our system is updated daily based on the previous day's market closing prices. Try inputting an earlier date.
Q. When will the other platforms/tools be released?
A. We plan to release a number of investment tools in the future. The algorithms for these tools have already been written but we are focusing on StockMarksTM at the moment.
Q. What factors influence the evolution of a company’s rating?
A. The evolution of a company's rating is dependent on both internal and external factors. We rate each company on nine variables to assess its business, management and price qualities (see the StockMarks™ methodology). External factors include shifts in the relative positions of other companies as well as influences of market timing and price change clusters. Because ratings are relative to other rated companies, changes in a specific company's financial data are not required to alter its quality rating.
Q. Why don't you rate Japanese companies?
A. We initially planned to rate Japanese companies and even had the algorithms implemented to work with them. However, a restriction on the way in which Japanese companies report their results makes it impossible to calculate Last Twelve Months (LTM) financials. These figures are important to our algorithms and therefore we are unable to calculate daily ratings for Japanese companies. We are currently looking for ways to work around this and plan to implement a customized rating for Japanese companies in the future. However, we do currently rate some of the larger Japanese companies which are listed as ADRs in the US market. Check this list to see if we rate the company you are interested in.
Q. Why don't you rate some of the largest Korean companies?
A. This is a problem relating to the way in which the large Korean companies report their results. The Korean method of reporting makes it impossible to calculate key Last Twelve Month (LTM) financial figures which are used heavily in our algorithms. We are currently looking for ways to work around this and plan to implement a customized rating for these companies in the future. However, we do currently rate some of the larger Korean companies which are listed as ADRs in the US market. Check this list to see if we rate the company you are interested in.
Q. Why doesn't the Korean text appear correctly on my computer?
A. Please make sure you have a compatible Korean font installed. You can download such a font here.
Q. Why wont my browser display any of the charts?
A. Our charts are embedded Java applets. In order to view the charts, you need to install the latest Java Runtime Environment from Sun Microsystems. You can download it here.
